City of Murphysboro – Safe Routes to School Grant Program
Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Murphysboro City Hall, Council Chambers, 202 North 11th Street, Murphysboro, IL 62966.
The purpose of this hearing is to provide information and receive public comment regarding the City of Murphysboro’s intent to apply for funding through the Safe Routes to School grant Program, administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) with federal funds. This program is designed to improve safety for students walking and biking to school, reduce traffic congestion and pollution, and encourage active transportation.
As part of this application, the City of Murphysboro proposes to construct new sidewalks along 16th Street, from Murphysboro High School to Gartside Street. Currently no sidewalks exist along this route.
Public participation is encouraged. Verbal comments will be accepted during the hearing. Written comments may be submitted in advance or following the hearing to:
